The root used to make this delightful bread is not the orange coloured yam commonly used for candied yams at a Thanksgiving meal. It is a red skinned tuber with whitish\/gray flesh inside.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Ingredients:           \r\n            <div class=\"onp-locker-call\" style=\"display: none;\" data-lock-id=\"onpLock593793\">\r\n                <p><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 \u00bd cups\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sweet potatoes, raw (peeled and grated)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd lb\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Crisco (fat)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 \u00bd cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Flour<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sugar<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd tsp\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Baking powder<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Coconut (finely grated)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd tsp\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Salt<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bd cup\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Water<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00bc tsp\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Black pepper<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Preparation:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rub Crisco and flour together until grainy. Add all other ingredients excluding water. Using fingers mix ingredients slowly adding water moisten mixture. Pour into a well greased loaf pan, packing in securely. Bake at 350\u00ba for 40 minutes or until it starts to brown. Reduce heat to 250\u00ba and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
